The puppies are here!

Last night our Ada woke me up at 3am for a final potty break before she started to excessively dig up her whelping nest. It took her quite some time of strenuous labor until the first puppy was born. About 9 hours later she had completed the whelping of 8 absolutely gorgeous and healthy puppies. I can not tell yet how many males and females we have, because I usually don't get involved in the birthing process unless it is necessary. I also give the young family time to settle and collect themselves, before I start my big inventory. As soon as I have found an appropriate moment to do so, I will let you know what exactly we have. Attached you can see a few of the pictures I took throughout the night. Since the pictures actually show all the bodily fluids that are involved in the whelping process, they might not be for the faint of heart. Just skip this part if you would like to continue to think that puppies are born cute :)

Paperwork is in the mail

Just a little update on the paperwork for those who had their puppy shipped!

I dropped it off at USPS on Saturday, and you should receive it in 3 - 5 days. Sorry for the delay, but I believe most of you know that my brother came to visit us, and I wanted to spend as much time with him as possible :)

It is time to leave...

Penelope, Levvy and Oliver have left us today, and I am quite sad about it. Having 7 puppies instead of 10 makes a big difference, and a very noticeable one. Tomorrow around 10:30 am I will leave for the Raleigh-Durham airport to ship out Jane, Hemingway, Twain and Presley.

The pictures and videos of today show very clearly, why it is so important to keep puppies for at least 8 weeks. They started to interact with our the grown up's, and receive important lessons on manners and bite inhibition. Please excuse the noise in the background, but with 13 dogs, two kids and a husband... our house is never quiet!
